SIBU: A bush fire broke out at Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce Road here this evening, ravaging about five acres of land.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department director Nor Hisham Mohammad said firemen from both central and Sungai Merah stations here responded rapidly to fight the fire.

He added: “A water tanker has also been deployed from Sungai Merah station to assist to put out the fire as there is no fire hydrant and open water source at the area.

“The fire is now under control and the affected area is about five acres.”

Earlier, thick smoke was seen billowing from the razed area.

Nor Hisham repeated his reminders for the public not to do any open burning activities in view of the current hot and dry weather.

“Today alone – firemen have responded to five fires in Sibu.”
