A Good Omen
When people think of omens the first thought that comes to their head is a bad omen, but at times there can be good omens thrown into the mix. If you agree with us then you’ll probably enjoy the HP OMEN 15 as much as we do. It is a small, light, and portable gaming laptop targeted towards providing gamers a portable gaming machine while on-the-go.
What makes the HP OMEN 15 special? Well, out of the box you’re greeted by the HP OMEN logo in red that’s flanked by carbon fibre designs, which ups the ante on aesthetics. When opened, you’ll notice the keyboard that comes with a numpad, on an already small laptop. The keys are well spaced and sized for typing and gaming, with nice tactile feedback, albeit a little dull when pressed down.
Under the hood is an Intel Core i7-8750H, which is powerful enough to not bottleneck the NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti that’s going to be the core of your gaming experience. Along with 8GB of RAM, you have a machine that’s capable to play the mainstream games out there without breaking a sweat, and we’re talking about games like CS:GO, DotA2, LoL, Overwatch. For the best experience in triple A titles like Witcher 3, you probably have to tweak the settings a bit to get the best performance out of the machine.
Another feature you can look forward to is, the Bang & Olufson speakers. If you’ve ever seen our Beoplay speaker review, you can tell that B&O knows how to make music sound good. And with that said, the speakers on the OMEN do deliver in both volume and quality – sounding great for music, movies, and of course gaming. For the display we have a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS with anti-glare that displays everything with great contrast, regardless of whether it’s in dim or brightly lit place.
The overall build quality of the OMEN is great. It feels sturdy and has some weight to it, though a bit heavier than we expected from a laptop this size but definitely not enough to make a difference. The display output ports are strategically placed on the back of the Omen, so you won’t have wires running on the sides the Omen, keeping cable management clean and hidden behind the display.
CHIP CONCLUDE: There’s nothing better than carrying around your favourite games wherever you go, and the HP Omen 15 gives you the ability to do so.
