Level Up Your Photography With P20

Where do we even begin? HUAWEI kickstarted 2018 with new devices within their P series, introducing us to the P20 and the P20 Pro. As its name suggests, the P20 is a device that is made to take your mobile photography to the next level, with the help of AI. With many processes in our daily lives now automated, why can’t we have an AI to assist us in taking better photos, to imitate a professional?

The P20 is a device that is breathtakingly gorgeous. From its rounded corners to the ever flashy back, it is hard to ignore that the device is eye catching. We got our hands on the Midnight Blue variant that shows off different shades of blue depending on the reflection of the light. It does sport a notch on top of the device that can be hidden in plain sight with the help of a notch hiding setting. The dual rear cameras of this device is also set up vertically. The power button is unique with a slight indent to give a different feel. Sadly, the rear camera does have a camera bump, which is slightly annoying when you are trying to keep it steady on a table, but a case would solve that issue easily.

Moving on to the star of the show – the rear cameras. Aside from the upgrade in terms of physical hardware, the P20 also comes with AI assisted photography that was previously introduced to the Mate 10 Pro. Depending on your subject, the AI will detect and automatically adjust the settings to give you the best picture possible. You can also utilise the new 3D Lighting mode that allows you to tweak the directional light on portrait pictures. With additional features like this, the device allows you to be similar to a professional without requiring much personal tweaking. But, learning about photography is always good as you will be relying on your skill that can be transferred to other phones and even cameras without the help of AI then. The AI does sometime over expose areas and it still needs slight improvements from HUAWEI to make it even better.

For daily usage, the device works without much hitches. Tasks such as photography, gaming and multitasking were made easy. Overall, the device is fine for what it sets out to do. It offers you a great camera to take amazing shots, a fast and zippy device that can play all the latest games and apps without much issues, all packaged in a beautiful body.

CHIP CONCLUDE: A great device that can elevate your photography skills with the help of AI. It can power you throughout the day, be it watching videos, playing games or messaging friends.
