Doing The Electric Slide
Do you remember the days of flip and sliding phones? Because we do. Although smartphones these days don’t have the same compactness that we use to have back in the day, we have so much more when it comes to functionality. On the bright side, our phones can be a lot slimmer these days as well, but Xiaomi is bringing back the fun sliding – albeit not in the way we are expecting.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 is one of the brand’s phones and this 6.39-inch smartphone features a Full Screen Display covering 93.4% of the body. To produce great colours, the MIX 3 uses an AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution (2340×1080) and an aspect ratio of 19:5:9. It’s also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for the best screen durability you can find on a smartphone. Under the hood, the MIX 3 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 AIE processor with clock speeds of up to 2.8GHz and an Adreno 630 GPU.
The Snapdragon 845 is one of Qualcomm’s most powerful SoC’s so it’s not surprising when it was incredibly smooth and responsive whilst going through menus. Not only that, it comes with a fast UFS 2.1 storage. The MIX 3 has an aluminum frame that adds a nice rugged feel despite the body looking fragile due to the ceramic back. But at 212g, the phone is a bit heavier than expected. On the back you’ll find the 12+12MP rear camera that uses a Sony IMX363 f/1.8 and Samsung S5K3M3 sensor as its main and secondary cameras.
As for the front, it’s a 24+2MP combination that uses the Sony IMX576 f/2.2 sensor. Here comes the twist: At first you’ll think that there isn’t a front camera, but when you slide the phone down – voila, the camera is revealed! Powering all these features is a 3,200mAh battery, while the Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ and Qi wireless charging keeps it going. Software wise the phone uses the MIUI 10 OS, which is based off Android 9 Pie. It comes with a fingerprint sensor found on the back, and will support Face Unlock in future updates.
CHIP CONCLUDE: The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 looks beautiful and feels great in hand. It also performs great thanks to the ample amount of RAM and the Snapdragon 845.
