CD shops have a special place in our hearts because we were always thrilled to visit them when we were kids. They were one of our limited (but favourite) sources of entertainment back in the days before smartphones. Many of us spent our childhood browsing the racks and racks of music albums, movies, and dramas, and it was a lot of fun TBH. And let’s not forget about the toys that are sold there as well.
Here’s a sad piece of news for our Klang Valley folks, as the Speedy outlet in Mid Valley has announced that they are closing for good. According to Malay Mail, the outlet is bidding us goodbye on 15th September (Sunday), and that’s TOMORROW!
Twitter user, Putra Adib (@putraadibadham) posted about the closure of this CD shop on 8th September and it caused a stir on the internet.
He shared that this outlet is having mega promotions to clear out its stock, so you can visit the store to bag as many movies, dramas, and music CDs as you want! For those who spent a fragment of their lives shopping/working at this Speedy branch, you should totally visit to pay final respects to the store.
With the speedy growth of digital media, old-school physical media has been dying out gradually in Malaysia. After the continuous closure of other Speedy outlets for the past couple of years, and now this iconic branch, we can’t help but accept that the physical media era is finally ending.
Although the digital media is taking over our lives with Spotify, Netflix, Hulu, etc., nothing really beats the feeling of holding a physical music album or movie DVD in our hands. (Admin was one of the people who enjoyed purchasing physical music albums from Speedy. 😢)
Mid Valley Speedy, you’ll be remembered. 💔
