KUCHING: Thousands of Dayaks who arrived yesterday from longhouses and villages for the Pentecostal Night are hopeful they will be joined by Sarawak Christian politicians from both sides of the political divide at the mammoth gathering.

Pentecostal Night is held at Jubilee Ground on Saturday and Sunday night. More than 25,000 people are expected to be present.

Invitations have been sent out to all Christian politicians from Sarawak, irrespective of political parties, according to Dato Ir.Janang Bungsu, Chairman of Pentecostal Night 22019.

“ I personally went through the list and verified the names of Christian politicians from Sarawak, before I signed and despatched the invitation to them,” said Janang.

Many of the faithful from the rural areas, who came on their own budget and are staying in friends’ houses or adjoining dormitories of churches, were delighted to hear that Christian Dayak Assemblymen and Members of Parliament had been invited.

Among those who are looking forward to the presence of the politicians are Joseph from Betong, Peter Lasak, Inti Belinda and Noel Lingga from Saratok and Melina Lom from Kapit.

They shared the view that Pentecostal Night would set the way for them and their community to move up to higher spiritual and moral ground.

They added: “ We are hopeful that the Dayak elected politicians will join us in this great awakening and that they will celebrate with us and the community in the outpouring of the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

“ We hope to see our Dayak Christian politicians put on the new armour of holiness and lead our community to development and progress in ways that are pleasing to God.”

They are from different denominations, namely, Roman Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Sarawak Evangelical Mission and a host of other independent churches.
