Samsung Galaxy S8 Not Getting Android 10 Update

Samsung has recently started rolling out the Android 10 update to the Galaxy S10, and other models are expected to follow in December and in early 2020.

One of the questions that have until now been yet to be answered concerned the Galaxy S8, a not-so-old model that can easily run Android 10 but which Samsung intended to abandon as per the company’s two major updates for each device policy.

Despite recent speculation that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ could also receive Android 10, the South Korean firm has confirmed in the One UI 2.0 upgrade schedule that this device is not part of the rollout.

Samsung Galaxy S9, Note9 and newer, alongside a series of other Galaxy A and Galaxy M models are all projected to receive the Android 10 update in January, February, and April, the South Korean company indicates in the schedule that you can check in the photo attached to this article.

Customer frustration

What does this mean for Galaxy S8 users?

Without the Android 10 update, the Galaxy S8 isn’t necessarily an abandoned device, albeit the lack of the latest Android version could push many either to newer Samsung devices or to models launched by other brands.

According to Samsung’s update policy, each model receives two major Android versions, and Galaxy S8 has already completed this phase, which means it shouldn’t normally be eligible for the update to Android 10.

On the other hand, this doesn’t necessarily mean users are pleased with Samsung giving up on the Galaxy S8 so fast. This discussion on reddit, for example, is living proof that the two major updates per model policy isn’t the right way to go as far as customers are concerned, especially as models that are not positioned as flagships do receive the Android 10 update.
